Feb 4 2006 The Chinese Yang Yang, turning thirty next August 24, presents herself in Torino 2006 with a collection of prizes that would make any champion turn pale. In 1997, with the help of her friend Lu Chen a figure skater, she found her self-confidence once again and since then she has become one of the top names in the world short track panorama. It can be clearly noted that in the last seasons she has had a decline in her performance and consequently in victories. However, if one thinks about the 2003 World Championships she took home 2 gold medals and in 2005 the 500m record, maybe she should be deemed up to the situation.In the four legs of the World Cup at the end of 2005, she is ranked second overall in the 1500m, while she is definitely away from the best on the other distances. Her rivals hope that Yang is now satisfied and tired of winning, so as to eliminate an uncomfortable customer for the title. However in special competitions, such as the Olympic ones, technique and experience can make the difference, gifts which are not lacking in the great Chinese champion. The very young Koreans Chun-Sa Byun and Sun-Yu Jin, who are proving to be in a fantastic shape and are ready for the highlight of the season, but especially Yang’s compatriot, Meng Wang, winner of the last international competitions, know perfectly well that the final calculations must only be done at the end and never without the “gold cannibal” Yang Yang.
